The 40 Over 40 Campaign is about celebrating the strength, beauty, and wisdom of women over 40 through powerful portrait photography in Johannesburg. Each session is a journey of rediscovery and empowerment, and today, we’re celebrating Theresa’s story.

Meet Theresa! Theresa is so inspirational, she shared a bit of what her life looks like at the moment with me, and what an inspiration! Theresa has been stepping outside of her comfort zone, big time. And this portrait session was also a part of that. But we had such fun and I can’t wait to share more of her story and photos with you. 

What drew you to this 40 over 40 campaign?

Knowing that I needed to celebrate me, and not as anything else but me and that embodying that is a very powerful way of connecting back to that.

If you could go back and tell your 20 year old self something that you think would change your life, what would it be?

What I do tell my children now – Just lay your values, near your truth, and keep coming back to that and don’t worry what anybody else thinks should be done or you should be or any agenda society might have for what is right or normal, if you connect and understand you, you will be the right path.

What are you post proud of yourself for?

Continuously evolving.

What are some goals or things you still want to do?

I’ve always struggled because I felt I was a healer early on, then healing I knew was to be a doctor. I didn’t become a doctor. And I still want to answer that inner calling because all my charts etc say that I am a healer, but somehow I haven’t answered that higher purpose.

Has there/is there anyone in your life who has made a massive impact, if so, how?

I think it’s just a combination with the curiosity to connect. But probably it was a woman called Anneliese Cowley, who ran a health centre that I would allow myself to go to after each child to, basically to kind of just reset. And she had a huge impact on me.

My friends and family describe me as:

Very loyal, very loving, very caring.

Thoughts on aging?

To embrace it and see the beauty in every stage.

What do you think some of your best qualities are?

A good clear mind. I’m caring, intuitive, perceptive.

What advice do you have for other women 40+ out there?

The best years. have arrived and will continue.

What has gotten easier for you since turning 40?

Becoming more and more comfortable in who I am and in my own skin, and in my own truth.

What do you currently love about yourself?

I think I love that I’m becoming. softer.
So in my spiritual teachings, there’s a word of expression that just gets repeated over and over and over; Less reaction, Less intensity of reaction, less frequency of reaction, faster recovery from reaction. And that’s the mark of beautiful spiritual evolution.

“Our body is our souls temple and if we can’t feed that temple with love and respect, and care, the souls journey is going to be tough.”
