Another insanely lovely lady and I spent the day together for Maletsema’s 40 over 40 campaign portraits. If I hadn’t known how much Maletsema didn’t like being photographed before her portrait session, I never would have guessed that she hates most photos of herself that she sees. (I highly recommend you go watch the video further down this blog to see how Maletsema reacted to seeing some of her 40 over 40 campaign photos). We had such a blast together while going through a whole bunch of outfits so that Maletsema could get every look she wanted.
During our consultation Maletsema mentioned to me that there was a photo of a celebrity she loves and it would be her dream to have a photo of her own inspired by this celebrities photo, so of course we also made sure we got Maletsema her dream photo during this session too!
But let’s hear more from Maletsema about why she decided to partake in this campaign and who she is!
What drew you to this 40 over 40 campaign?
I used to avoid taking photos of myself, as I struggled with feeling beautiful as a full-figured person. For years, I grappled with my weight, but after turning 40, I began to accept and love myself. I shifted my focus to embracing my strengths and celebrating the many things I excel at. This campaign is a celebration of self-awareness, love, strength, and embracing a new chapter in my life. As my son turns 18 and leaves the nest empty, I’m embracing this transition by honoring my journey towards self-acceptance and the strength I’ve discovered along the way.
If you could go back and tell your 20 year old self something that you think would change your life, what would it be?
Just do it. Stop being fearful. Go on and establish those networks, talk to strangers, start that business, explore and learn that new skill. Being told “No” and any form of failure are not the worst things that can happen.
What are some goals or things you still want to do?
Travel the world more, start a series of small businesses that can bring social impact.
