Meet beautiful and amazing Alicia who recently joined me in studio for Alicia’s 40 Over 40 Campaign, a powerful celebration of women embracing life after 40. Alicia was ready to step into a new challenge in life and to push herself and develop herself in new ways, and this 40 over 40 campaign felt like the perfect step for her to celebrate her achievements and share her story.
But let’s hear more from Alicia about why she decided to partake in this campaign and who she is!
What drew you to this 40 over 40 campaign?
40 Over 40 campaign is a powerful celebration of women over 40—their resilience, beauty, and unique stories. As a child psychiatrist, educator, and leader in mental health, I understand the importance of representation and self-affirmation, particularly for women who often find themselves balancing multiple roles in their personal and professional lives.
This campaign resonates with me because it challenges age-related stereotypes and highlights the confidence, wisdom, and strength that come with experience. It provides a platform for women to see themselves in a new light—beyond societal expectations—embracing their journeys with pride.
On a personal level, I appreciate how photography can capture the essence of a person’s story in a single image. Being part of this campaign is an opportunity to celebrate not just where I am, but everything that has shaped me—as a psychiatrist, mother, mentor, and advocate.
If you could go back and tell your 20 year old self something that you think would change your life, what would it be?
“Trust yourself more. You are capable, resilient, and stronger than you realize. Stop doubting your instincts, they will guide you well.”
At 20, I was probably juggling ambition with uncertainty, trying to find my place in the world while meeting expectations—both my own and those of others. I would tell myself to worry less about perfection and more about authenticity. Success isn’t about ticking off accomplishments on a checklist; it’s about growing into yourself with confidence and courage.
I would also say: “The people who truly matter will respect you for who you are, not just what you achieve. Invest in those relationships, and let go of the ones that drain you.”
And finally: “You don’t have to have it all figured out yet. Life will unfold in ways you can’t even imagine. Stay open, stay kind, and enjoy the ride.”
What are you post proud of yourself for?
My courage to keep growing and to push myself to do new things, sometimes far out of my comfort zone, and the fact that I show up, every day, for my patients, my students, my colleagues, my family , and myself, despite the challenges, despite the pressures, and despite the moments of doubt.
