Meet Helene, a wonderful woman who knows exactly what she wants in life and refuses to let anything stand in her way. The word “impossible” simply doesn’t exist in her vocabulary. After shedding an incredible 62 kg, she decided it was time to step in front of the camera and celebrate the strong, determined woman she has become.
But Helene’s story is about so much more than just transformation. it’s about resilience, independence, and embracing life on her own terms. From raising two daughters as a single mother to building a successful career Helene has tackled every challenge with unwavering focus and a positive spirit.
Let’s hear more from Helene about why she chose to take part in the 40 Over 40 campaign, her thoughts on aging, and the advice she has for other women stepping into this powerful chapter of life.
But let’s hear more from Helene about why she decided to partake in this campaign and who she is!
“I know what I want in life and will go out of my way to achieve all the goals that I set for myself. I do not give up and “impossible” doesn’t exist in my vocabulary.”
What drew you to this 40 over 40 campaign?
I have never done anything like this in my life, as I didn’t like being photographed. I was overweight and didn’t want to be reminded of it when I saw pictures of myself. After losing 62 kg’s, I felt I owed it to myself to celebrate the new me.
If you could go back and tell your 20 year old self something that you think would change your life, what would it be?
Take exceptional care of your mental, physical and emotional health. Do not allow people to manipulate or bully you. You are good enough as you are. You don’t need anyone’s approval to live your life the way you want to. Do whatever makes you happy.
What are you post proud of yourself for?
I am super proud of everything that I have accomplished in life. I sacrificed a lot of personal time with my children to build my career, but it was all worth it in the end. I raised my two daughters on my own, and they have turned out as well-balanced individuals, each with their own personality. They have the most beautiful children, and I enjoy spending time with them. They are my best friends – we are very close.
What are some goals or things you still want to do?
I would love to have my own business. I need to just figure out what it is that I want to do. I am currently selling a kitchen appliance part-time and might make that a full-time career when I retire. I am continuously thinking of something else that I can do as I cannot imagine myself doing nothing when I retire in three and a half years’ time. I love keeping busy and will enjoy the extra income. My passion is taking excellent care of my customers and looking after their best interests.
