Meet Kayleigh ✨

Kayleigh’s 40 over 40 portrait experience was about so much more than creating beautiful photographs.

It was about marking a moment.

A moment of change, growth and stepping into a new season of life and choosing to celebrate the woman she has fought so hard to become. Whoooop frikken WHOOOOP!

Kayleigh openly shares how being photographed is completely outside of her comfort zone and in fact, that was one of the reasons she chose to do this experience! To challenge the stories she had about herself and finally see herself through a different lens (see what I did there 😀 ) 

Her journey has been shaped by all sorts; resilience, courage, determination… and so much more. From navigating health challenges to building her career, travelling, running, and embracing the unexpected timeline of her own life, Kayleigh’s story is a beautiful reminder that there is no “right” way to do life.

“had mixed feelings about turning 40 and wanted to do something different to celebrate. I had also gone through a lot of change professionally and personally and wanted to mark this point in my journey. This is not something I would normally do and I wanted to step out of my comfort zone.”

“I am in a season of change and growth. Its uncomfortable and challenging. It is full of ups and downs. But most importantly it is full of lessons. I have been forced to reflect, review and adapt in all spheres. Some days this is extremely rewarding and other days I am left in tears of frustration but both push me to grow and enjoy this adventure.”

“Your value is not defined by an age category no matter what society tells you.”

“I am not comfortable being photographed – any focus on me leaves me very uncomfortable. I don’t even like looking at photos of myself. Logically I know no one should feel like this – another reason why I chose to do this.”

“Be true to yourself. Always. You are the constant in your life and there are no do overs so make sure your choices are yours.”

“A healthy version of me.
Fighting for my health will be my biggest challenge and greatest victory.”

Kayleigh walked into the studio feeling unsure, uncomfortable, and a little nervous about putting herself in front of the camera, but then she got to walk out having done something brave.

Her 40 over 40 portrait experience was about celebrating everything she has already overcome, everything she has built, and the woman she has become along the way. Because, like Kayleigh says, your story doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. Your timeline doesn’t have to match anyone else’s and you don’t have to wait until you feel completely ready to celebrate yourself.

And my little reminder to you: sometimes the most powerful/memorable and impactful moments happen when we step outside our comfort zone and allow ourselves to be seen.
