I am still in a bit of shock that it is already time for Gaby’s matric dance! I started photographing this family about 8 years ago, and it’s a bit crazy how fast Gaby & Alex have grown up. But was a privilege to be able to watch and capture these two young ladies through their lives. And what a privilege it was to capture beautiful Gaby before her matric dance.
I think it must have been on about the second family portrait session that I did with this family when at about half way through the session we got rained out. And like serious rain, thunder, lightening and the works. (This family somehow attracts rain for family portrait session, but that’s a story for another day) . I still remember little Gaby being terrified of the lightening as we sprinted for our cars. And now today we have this most incredible, kind and caring young lady. She is sophisticated and confident and I am so excited to see what the future has in store for her.
The portrait session
I arrived at Gaby’s matric dance portrait session just as hair & make up was finishing up and shortly afterwards we started on the portraits. I like to start matric dance portraits early. That way we can make sure we get a variety of all the pictures we need. I also like to put a bit more focus on getting a handful of individual photos. As well as a variety of photos with family members. And of course, like at this matric dance, the close friends also need to have a photo. Or photos.
At this portrait session we had Sam and Gen. They are two amazing human beings who made it their mission to be there for Gaby for anything she needed. Whenever she needed it. They were there to help her put on her shoes, hold her cool drink and even make sure she had everything she needed to have.
